Intestinal antiseptic. Antidiarrheal drug

Release forms

  • 90 ml - dark glass bottles (1) complete with a double dosing spoon (2.5 and 5 ml) - cardboard packs. Film-coated tablets, yellow, round, biconvex

Description of the dosage form

  • 24 - blisters (1) - cardboard packs. Suspension for oral administration is yellow, with a banana smell.

pharmachologic effect

Intestinal antiseptic, derivative of 5-nitrofuran. It is active against most pathogens of intestinal infections (including mutant strains resistant to other antimicrobial agents): gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp.) And gram-negative (Escherichia spp., Citrobacter spp., Enterobacter, Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp. , Shigella spp., Proteus spp., Yersinia spp.), As well as Vibrio cholerae. It is not active against bacteria of the genus Pseudomonas spp., Proteus spp. (Proteus inconstans), as well as strains of subgroup A of the species Providentia alcalifaciens. It is assumed that the drug inhibits the activity of dehydrogenases and disrupts protein synthesis in pathogenic bacteria. In medium therapeutic doses, it has bacteriostatic activity, and in higher doses it has a bactericidal effect. The effect appears from the first hours of treatment. In therapeutic doses, it practically does not disturb the balance of the symbiotic bacterial flora of the intestine; does not cause the development of resistant strains of pathogenic microorganisms and cross-resistance of bacteria to other antimicrobial agents, which makes it possible, if necessary, for generalized infections to prescribe it in complex therapy with systemic drugs. In case of intestinal infections of viral genesis, it prevents the development of bacterial superinfection.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, it is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, creating a high concentration of the active substance in the intestine. Due to these pharmacokinetic features, the drug has an exclusively enteral antiseptic effect, does not have systemic antibacterial activity, and does not cause general toxic effects; excreted in the feces. The drug does not affect the clinical and biochemical parameters of the blood test.

Special conditions

During treatment with Nifuroxazide-Richter, the use of alcoholic beverages is contraindicated, because alcohol increases the body's sensitivity to the drug and can provoke a disulfiram-like reaction (exacerbation of diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flushing of the skin, a feeling of heat on the face and upper body, noise in the head, shortness of breath, tachycardia, a feeling of fear). The drug is not prescribed as monotherapy for the treatment of intestinal infections complicated by septicemia. In the presence of symptoms of dehydration, it is necessary to carry out rehydration therapy in combination with treatment (for adults - about 2 liters of fluid per day). During treatment, you should adhere to a certain diet: do not eat raw fruits and vegetables, juices, spicy and fatty foods. Before prescribing the suspension to infants, it is necessary to exclude their congenital deficiency of enzymes that break down sucrose. Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms Nifuroxazide does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and work with mechanisms.

Composition

  • 5 ml 1 fl. (100 g) nifuroxazide 220 mg 4 g Excipients: carboxypolymethylene, sucrose, sodium hydroxide, citric acid monohydrate, antifoam emulsion (Antifam F), methyl parahydroxybenzoate, banana flavor (banana essence), purified water. nifuroxazide 100 mg Excipients: colloidal silicon dioxide (Aerosil hydrophilic 200), potato starch, gelatin, talc, magnesium stearate. The composition of the film shell: hypromellose, titanium dioxide, talc, polyethylene glycol 20,000, quinoline yellow dye

Nifuroxazide indications for use

  • - acute and chronic diarrhea caused by intestinal gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Haemophilus influenzae), as well as some gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Klebsiella spp., Escherichia coli, Proteobus spp., Proteobus spp. .).

Nifuroxazide contraindications

  • - allergy to 5-nitrofuran derivatives; - children's age up to 2 months; - premature babies; - hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.

Nifuroxazide side effects

  • Nifuroxazide is well tolerated, side effects were practically not observed. In isolated cases, in the presence of increased individual sensitivity to nifuroxazide, abdominal pain, nausea and increased diarrhea are possible (these symptoms do not require special treatment and discontinuation of the drug).

Drug interactions

During treatment with Nifuroxazide-Richter, simultaneous administration of oral agents should be avoided due to the strong adsorption properties of the drug. Since nifuroxazide does not enter the circulatory system, interaction with systemic drugs is unlikely and is not yet known.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms have not been described. In case of overdose, gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment are recommended.

Storage conditions

  • store in a dry place
  • keep away from children
  • store in a dark place
Information provided

Pharmachologic effect:

TO nifuroxazide most of the pathogens that cause intestinal diseases are sensitive: Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter, E. coli, Klebsiella, Shigella, Yersinia, Vibrio cholerae. It is inactive only against pseudomonads and some proteus strains.

The drug can act both bacteriostatically and bactericidal, this effect is dose-dependent. Mechanism of action Nifuroxazide based on inhibition of the activity of the enzyme dehydrogenase and disruption of protein synthesis by bacterial cells. In medium doses, the drug does not inhibit the growth of normal intestinal microflora, does not cause the appearance of bacterial strains that are resistant to the action of antimicrobial agents. If the intestinal infection is caused by viruses, Nifuroxazide prevents the addition of a secondary infection.

Nifuroxazide not absorbed in the stomach, thereby creating a high concentration of the active substance in the intestine. Due to the peculiarities of the pharmacokinetics of the drug, it does not have a systemic effect (it enters the blood in small quantities), is excreted in the feces.

Indications for use

Treating diarrhea caused by a drug-sensitive infection;

Complex therapy of chronic colitis and enterocolitis;

Prevention of infections during abdominal operations;

Treatment of intestinal dysbiosis.

Mode of application

The tablets are prescribed for adults and children over 6 years old. For children under 6 years of age, the use of a suspension is recommended.

Before use, the suspension must be shaken thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Dosage Nifuroxazide for children depends on age: from 2 to 6 months. - 0.5-1 tsp (110-220 mg) twice a day, from 6 months. up to 6 years old - 1 tsp (220 mg) three times a day, children over 6 years old and adults - 1 tsp (220 mg) 4 times a day.

Side effects

Usually the drug does not cause side effects, only in rare cases are dyspepsia phenomena and even a short-term increase in diarrhea possible. Side effects do not require treatment or drug withdrawal.

In cases of allergic reactions (rash, shortness of breath), the drug should be canceled.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to nitrofuran derivatives or any auxiliary components of the drug Nifuroxazide.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, the drug can only be used under strict indications and under medical supervision.

Interaction with other medicinal products

The drug has high adsorption properties, which should be taken into account when taken simultaneously with other drugs.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Nifuroxazide is a 5-nitrofuran derivative and an intestinal antiseptic. It is highly active against Staphylococcus spp., Campylobacter jejuni, pathogenic Vibrions and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp. Low sensitivity to nifuroxazide is demonstrated by Proteus indologenes, Enterobacter cloacae, and Citrobacter spp. Nifuroxazide-resistant microorganisms such as Pseudomonas spp., Klebsiella spp., Providencia spp. and Proteus mirabilis.

Probably, nifuroxazide inhibits the activity of dehydrogenases and inhibits the production of proteins in bacterial cells. The substance does not give rise to drug-resistant strains. Cross-resistance with other antibacterial drugs has not been reported.

The effectiveness of the drug is determined neither by the sensitivity of microorganisms to antibacterial drugs, nor by the pH existing in the intestinal lumen. Nifuroxazide does not change the composition of the normal bacterial flora of the gastrointestinal tract, and in acute diarrhea of \u200b\u200bbacterial origin, it normalizes intestinal eubiosis. When infected with enterotropic viruses, it prevents the development of bacterial superinfection.

Pharmacokinetics

When taken orally, nifuroxazide is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and has an antibacterial effect directly in the intestinal lumen. It is excreted in feces: 20% of the substance is unchanged, the rest is in the form of metabolites.

Indications for use

  • Acute and chronic diarrhea caused by gram-positive (streptococci and staphylococci) and some gram-negative (Klebsiella, Shigella, Escherichia coli, Salmonella) bacteria;
  • Toxic diarrhea caused by gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella, Shigella, Escherichia coli, Salmonella) in children over 2 months old;
  • Diarrhea in chronic autoimmune gastritis, appendicitis and food intoxication;
  • Diseases accompanied by diarrhea;
  • Diarrhea caused by changes in the natural bacterial flora of the large intestine of various etiologies, as well as antibiotic therapy;
  • Chronic colitis and enterocolitis;
  • Intestinal dysbiosis.

In addition, Nifuroxazide is used to prevent infections after abdominal surgery.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to components of the drug or nitrofuran derivatives is the main contraindication to the use of Nifuroxazide.

In pediatrics, the drug in the form of a suspension is not prescribed for premature infants and children under 2 months of age. Nifuroxazide tablets are contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.

During pregnancy, the drug can be used only for health reasons, if the expected benefits outweigh the possible risks.

Instructions for the use of Nifuroxazide: method and dosage

Nifuroxazide tablets for adults and children over 6 years old are prescribed 2 pcs. 4 times a day (every 6 hours) for 5-7 days.

In the form of a suspension of Nifuroxazide, the drug is recommended for children under 6 years of age. Dosing regimen:

  • Children from 2 to 6 months: 2.5-5 ml (1 / 2-1 measuring spoon) 2 times a day;
  • Children from 6 months to 6 years: 5 ml (1 scoop) 3 times a day;
  • Children over 6 years old and adults: 5 ml (1 scoop) 4 times a day.

Immediately before taking, the suspension should be shaken thoroughly (until a homogeneous mass is obtained).

Side effects

Usually Nifuroxazide is well tolerated, in rare cases dyspeptic disorders and short-term increase in diarrhea are possible. These side effects, as a rule, do not require discontinuation of the drug and additional treatment.

In some cases, allergic reactions occur (skin rash and shortness of breath), which are an indication for stopping the therapy.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms have not been described at the moment. In case of accidental intake of high doses of the drug, gastric lavage and symptomatic therapy are recommended.

special instructions

In the treatment of acute diarrhea, it is necessary to replenish the lost body fluids (parenteral or oral, depending on the patient's condition).

Nifuroxazide should not be used as a monopreparation for the treatment of diarrhea associated with sepsis, because its action is limited to the gastrointestinal tract.

During treatment, alcoholic beverages should not be consumed, since there is a high probability of developing a disulfiram-like reaction.

When storing a suspension of Nifuroxazide, a slight precipitate may form, which, after shaking, should return to a state of a homogeneous suspension.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Nifuroxazide does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and operate complex mechanisms.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Although animal experiments have not confirmed the presence of a teratogenic effect, taking the drug during pregnancy is recommended only in exceptional situations. In the case of a short course of treatment with Nifuroxazide, it is possible to continue breastfeeding during lactation, but only after consulting a specialist.

Childhood use

In pediatrics, it is allowed to prescribe the drug according to indications and in doses selected taking into account the patient's age.

Drug interactions

When carrying out combination therapy, it should be borne in mind that nifuroxazide is characterized by high adsorption properties.

According to the instructions, Nifuroxazide does not interact with systemic drugs, since it is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is found in the blood only in trace concentrations.

Is nifuroxazide an antibiotic or not?

The drug is a derivative nitrofuran ... It belongs to the group of antibacterial drugs ().

Which is better: Nifuroxazide or Enterofuril?

Nifuroxazide (Nifuroxazide Richter) and are complete analogues, their price is approximately comparable. Reviews of drugs also do not allow you to give preference to any of them. However, Enterofuril has a greater variety of tablet release forms in terms of the number in the package (No. 8, 16 and 30) and dosage (100 and 200 mg). The use of tablets with a dosage of 200 mg is more convenient and allows you to reduce the frequency of taking the drug by half.

Due to the peculiarities of a growing child's body, babies are more susceptible to various intestinal infections, since they do not yet have a developed defense system. For therapy, Nifuroxazide is used - a remedy that fights against the cause of the disease - various pathogenic microorganisms.

The drug is available in two forms: tablets and syrup. The latter form is best suited for the treatment of intestinal infections in children, even the smallest. Nifuroxazide can be used only as directed by a pediatrician.

Nifuroxazide syrup has a pleasant taste

Any baby suffering from an acute or chronic form caused by some pathogens can be helped to cope with the disease with the help of Nifuroxazide.

This is an antidiarrheal drug based on a nitrofuran derivative that fights various gastrointestinal bacteria, among which are:

  • shigella
  • enterobacter
  • salmonella

These bacteria are both gram positive and gram negative. The classification is used to distinguish bacteria based on their shell structure. Gram-negative bacteria have stronger defenses and are harder for a child's immune system to fight against.

It should be noted that despite its antibacterial activity, the agent does not negatively affect the state of the normal bacterial flora. Indications for the use of the drug are the following factors:

  • due to an infectious disease
  • infectious chronic colitis and
  • prevention of possible infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract after surgery
  • complex therapy of intestinal dysbiosis

Nifuroxazide is used to treat various infectious diseases caused by both gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens.

Action of Nifuroxazide

Nifuroxazide syrup - in the treatment of intestinal infections

The agent is active against most types of pathogenic microorganisms that are causative agents of infectious diseases. The activity of the drug Nifuroxazide affects even strains of infections that are resistant to other antimicrobial drugs.

It is assumed that the action of the agent is based on inhibition of the activity of dehydrogenases, as well as on the violation of protein synthesis in infectious pathogens. Depending on the dose used, the drug has a different effect on pathogenic bacteria.

Used in medium doses, the agent has a bacteriostatic effect, as a result of which the growth and reproduction of microorganisms slows down. Higher doses of the agent destroy pathogenic bacteria.

Therapeutic doses of Nifuroxazide maintain the balance of normal intestinal microflora, and also do not allow pathogenic microorganisms to develop resistance to other antibacterial agents, which allows the drug to be used in combination with systemic agents to combat generalized infections.

The drug is taken orally, while absorption of its constituents by the body is practically not observed. A particularly high concentration of active ingredient is observed. Such features of the pharmacokinetics of the drug allow Nifuroxazide to exhibit an exclusively enteral antibacterial effect, not to produce toxic effects and be excreted from the body along with feces.

The drug is considered safe for babies and shows side effects only in rare cases. The result of a side effect of the drug may be diarrhea. If any of these signs appear, you should see your doctor.

Nifuroxazide, depending on the dose, has a bacteriostatic or bactericidal effect. The drug is considered safe, but if any side effects appear, you should inform your doctor about it.

Instructions for the use of Nifuroxazide

You cannot take Nifuroxazide syrup without a doctor's prescription!

Nifuroxazide is available in the form of tablets. The liquid form of the drug is a suspension, which is also mistakenly called a syrup. Before giving the suspension to the child, the container with the agent should be shaken thoroughly, since the drug becomes heterogeneous after a while. Depending on the age of the child, the drug is prescribed in different doses and with different frequency of administration:

  • babies from two months to six months should be given the drug twice a day, in a volume of 110 to 220 milligrams (approximately half and a whole teaspoon, respectively)
  • babies from six months to six years old should be given the drug three times a day in the amount of 220 milligrams per dose

The drug can be given at any convenient time: regardless of the time of administration, the drug acts the same. The therapy lasts for five to seven days. If the child gets better long before the end of the course, then the doctor should be informed about it. If the baby begins to suffer from the following symptoms, then it is necessary to consult a specialist as soon as possible:

  • changes in baby's stool
  • symptoms of dehydration
  • sharp rise in temperature

When using the drug, especially when it comes to a very small child, many parents may have certain difficulties. In order to simplify this process somewhat, there are useful recommendations:

  1. giving the baby a remedy, you should make sure that the child is in a sitting or semi-recumbent position, in which his body is at an angle of forty-five degrees to the plane of the surface on which he sits. Thus, the likelihood that the baby chokes on the suspension taken is significantly reduced.
  2. the spoon with the product must be placed closer to the corner of the lips, and not in the middle of the mouth. If the spoon is placed directly in the center, then the likelihood increases that the child will push out the spoon with the drug, or choke on it
  3. do not lie to the child that the medicine he is taking is some kind of delicacy. If the baby does not like the taste of the drug, then in the future he will less trust the adults who deceived him and it will become even more difficult to give him the medicine. When communicating with the baby, you should show calmness and perseverance, and then everything will definitely work out.

Nifuroxazide suspension is used only as directed by the attending physician. The dosage and frequency of taking the drug depend on the age of the child.

Nifuroxazide is an antibacterial agent produced in the form of a suspension and. The suspension is great for babies from two months old who suffer from infectious diseases. The drug can only be prescribed by a doctor. If any side effects appear, the drug should be discontinued, and the symptoms should be reported to the doctor as soon as possible.
