Prayer for the six worlds

At the beginning of the Tibetan lunar New Year, thousands of Buddhists gather at Labrang Monastery. They pray for hours not for themselves and their loved ones, but for all living beings from the six worlds of samsara: gods, demigods, people, animals, hungry ghosts and creatures of hell.

“I bow respectfully in body, speech and mind. I offer clouds of all gifts - both material and created by thought. I repent of all the negative deeds that I have done since beginningless times. I rejoice at the virtue of saints and ordinary beings. O guru and buddha, please be with us until samsara is empty and spin the wheel of Dharma for the benefit of sentient beings. I dedicate my merit and the one created by others to the great enlightenment ... "

The adherents of Tibetan Buddhism, moving along the pilgrimage path, prostrate to the glory of the Teachers

Mentally speaking the words of prayers, Tibetan Buddhists flock to the Labrang monastery. Hundreds of pilgrims walk three times along the bark - a three-kilometer path that encircles the monastery walls. They prostrate (prostrate) to the glory of the Teachers of the past and present, twist huge, two-meter high, prayer drums - mani, installed along the perimeter of the monastery. There are more than a thousand drums. The rotation of the mani is like a repetition of the sacred words "Om mani padme hum", the main Buddhist mantra of compassion for all living beings. Its six syllables correspond to the six worlds of samsara and symbolize the desire to free living beings from these worlds from a series of rebirths.

For the monk boys studying at Labrang, the journey of great prayer is just beginning

Despite the cold, monks of the Gelug tradition (which means "virtue") gather on the square of the monastery, sit motionless for hours on the cold ground and pray, offering hundreds of spiritual appeals to the Buddha ...

Followers of the Gelug school are often called "yellow hats" because of the pointed yellow hats, known since the days of the founding fathers of the school.

Even while resting, the monks meditate

February - time Monlam, festival of the Great Prayer... It takes place within 15 days immediately after the Tibetan Lunar New Year (in 2016 falls on February 8) and is dedicated to the 15 great wonders of the Buddha.

According to the sutra on Wisdom and Foolishness, Buddha Shakyamuni performed these miracles in 15 days. So he convinced everyone of the truth of his teaching - the Dharma, shaming the envious false teachers.

The masked Tsam dance symbolizes the taming of the evil inclination

Monlam, or Monlam Chenmo, i.e The Way of the Great Prayer, was established in 1409 and has become the most important festival for Tibetan Buddhists. Until the middle of the 20th century, the main festivities took place in Lhasa, and on the last day of Monlam, the Dalai Lama personally conducted services in the temple.

Tibetan women also take part in rituals

In 1959, when the XIV Dalai Lama was forced to leave Tibet, the holiday ceased to be celebrated. During the "Cultural Revolution" in China, it was banned. In the late 1980s, the Lhasa festival was revived, but after a few years it was again banned. Now in the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China, Monlam is not celebrated, but it was given a new life in Labrang - the largest monastery outside Lhasa, located in Eastern Tibet.

At the end of the Monlam festival, monks gather in the square for a special prayer. It lasts for several hours, and all this time the monks sit on the ground, despite the frost, reaching 27 degrees.

Labrang, once wealthy and influential, also suffered at the hands of the Communists during the Cultural Revolution, but was returned to the Buddhists in 1980 and is now a major religious educational center with six faculties and a huge library. Monlam blossomed with him.

Tibetan women pray at the temple entrance during Monlam

One of the brightest events of the festival is the opening ceremony of a giant thangka - a canvas depicting Buddha, which is laid out on a hill near the monastery by several dozen people. People from afar can admire the face of the Victorious and think about all living beings, wishing them well-being on the path to enlightenment, whoever they are - gods, animals, communists, creatures of hell, hungry ghosts or simply hungry, as well as well-fed. After all, the well-fed in this life can become hungry in the next if he does not follow the teachings of Buddha ...

A huge canvas depicting Buddha - thangka - is laid out on the hillside. Thangka size - 27 m high, 12 m wide

Only three to four dozen men can carry a huge thangka to the hill and spread it on it.

Mantra is an ancient sacred formula that carries a powerful charge of positive energy. The meaning of the word "mantra" comes from two Sanskrit words: "mana" and "tra". "Mana" is consciousness, mind, and "tra" is an instrument, control, liberation. Thus, mantra is the control of the mind, the release of the energy of consciousness. Mantra is concentrated energy. The best number of repetitions is 108 times. Some mantras need to be chanted even more, but even simple repetition without counting has a harmonizing effect. Mantras can be read to yourself. But it is best to set aside 10-15 minutes a day for repetition in a relaxed environment. Repeat the mantras calmly, with full voice, focusing on the sounds being spoken. A person repeating mantras, first of all, calms the mind from everyday worries, relieves stress, tunes in to higher knowledge.

Mantra reading is considered a more advanced form of meditation, which is not easy for everyone to understand. For people who are not practicing Buddhism, the purpose of such meditation is to bring their consciousness into a peaceful state. Buddhists believe that reciting mantras, or combinations of words, helps protect the mind from negative thoughts and emotions. We also believe that reciting mantras is conducive to spiritual development. There are many different mantras that serve different purposes.

When a person focuses on compassion, he recites a mantra, Skt. - letters. "Om, you are the treasure on the lotus." The mantra has an inspiring meaning. Syllable OM pronounced "aum" or "om" means body, speech and mind. By pronouncing this syllable, we want to improve our body, speech and mind - to make them what the body, speech and mind of the Buddha were. In this context, cleanliness means the absence of negative thoughts and emotions, as well as bad (harmful) actions. Other syllables show how to make this transition; when they are pronounced, certain objects are used as symbols. Syllable MANI , which means "pearl," is associated with the concept of right action, or action that is dictated by an altruistic intent. Syllable PADME means lotus. The lotus is a perfectly white flower, although it grows from silt. It represents the image of your mind, which is devoid of purity, but can become pure (like a white lotus flower), which corresponds to the concept of correct view. Syllable HUM means "invisible"; in other words, right view and right action must be one.

PRAYER FOR DAILY EXERCISE IN MEDITATION

Mental cleansing of your surroundings

May the whole earth find perfect purity, may it become as smooth as a palm, as smooth as lapis lazuli.

Place clean offerings in your mind

May the entire space be filled with offerings from gods and people, gifts that are obvious and in thought, similar to those presented by Samantabhadra.

Refuge contemplation

In the present space, on a lion throne of lotus, sun and moon, sits Shakyamuni Buddha, representing the very essence of all my merciful guides; around him gathered the gurus, both immediate and in the lineage, as well as yidams, buddhas, bodhisattvas, shravakas, pratyekabuddhas, dakas, dakinis and Dharma guardians.

The Creation of Reasons for Seeking Refuge

I and all my kind-hearted mothers, in fear of the torments of samsara, turn to Buddha, Dharma and Sangha - the only principles of Refuge. From now on until the very Enlightenment, we stand under the protection of these Three Jewels.

A Brief Prayer of a Refugee Seeker

Together with all living beings, I seek refuge with the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha until we all reach Enlightenment (7 times, 100 times or more).

Creating bodhicitta

Having acquired spiritual merit through giving and other perfections, may I become a Buddha for the benefit of all living beings (3 times)

Receiving grace and cleansing

From the hearts of all in whom I seek Refuge, streams of light and nectar descend; they dissolve in me and in every living being, cleansing from harmful karma and obstacles, lengthening the life span, increasing virtues and success in comprehending the Dharma.

Creation of the four immeasurable

May every being be happy. May every being be freed from suffering. May no one be parted from happiness forever. May every being dwell in tranquility, without hatred and attachment.

Invocation of the field of spiritual merit

Oh, Protector of all beings, great conqueror of hordes of evil spirits. Oh, Blessed One, Omniscient, appear accompanied by a retinue in this place.

Seven-membered prayer

In body, speech and mind I humbly prostrate myself, make offerings in reality and in thought, repent of the atrocities I have committed from time immemorial and rejoice in the virtues of all beings. Deign to remain here until samsara is over, spin the wheel of Dharma for us. I dedicate all virtues to the Great Enlightenment.

Mandala offering

The earth sprinkled with fragrant compositions and strewn with flowers; the great mountain, the four continents, the sun and the moon are presented as a gift to the sphere of the buddhas, so that all beings can enjoy life in these pure lands. Items that cause attachment, delusion or hatred; friends, strangers, enemies, our wealth and our bodies are gladly donated. Please deign to accept it and bless us so that the three poisons no longer poison us:

IDAM GURU RATNA MANDALAKAM NIRYATAYAMI

Turning to the field of spiritual merit and to the mentors of the line of succession,
indicating the milestones

Oh my kindest root Guru! Sit on the lotus and moon that crown my head, and by your great mercy bestow upon me the grace of your body, speech and mind. (Imagine your Root Guru descending to the top of your head and calling out with you, as follows.)

I appeal to you, O Buddha Shakyamuni, whose body comes from innumerable virtues, whose words fulfill the aspirations of mortals, whose thought clearly sees everything that exists.

I appeal to you, O teachers of the spiritual tradition, performers of many great deeds: Venerable Maitreya, Most Noble Asanga, Vasubandhu and all other precious teachers who have revealed the path of extensive knowledge.

I appeal to you, O spiritual mentors of the tradition of deep comprehension: Venerable Manjushri, Nagarjuna, Chandrakirti and all other precious teachers who revealed this deepest path.

I appeal to you, about the spiritual mentors of the secret mantra tradition: the Victorious Vajradhara, Tilopa, Naropa and all other precious teachers who have revealed the path of Tantra.

I appeal to you, about spiritual mentors along the line of Ancient Kadam: the Second Buddha Atisha, Dromtonpa, Geshe Potoba and all other precious teachers who have manifested the unity of the path of extensive knowledge and the path of deep comprehension.

I appeal to you, O spiritual guides in the New Kadam line: Venerable Tsongkhapa, Jamvel Gyatso, Khedruje and all other precious teachers who have revealed the unity of Sutra and Tantra.

I appeal to you, my kindest and most precious teacher, who shows concern for the unbridled mind, not pacified by the succession of all previous Buddhas, as if these wards were successful students.

(Repeat the next three calls three times)

Send down your blessings, giving inspiration, to me and to all my mothers, so that all my perverted thoughts are suppressed: from disrespect to the kindest mentor to the most refined duality of perception. Send down your blessings, giving inspiration, in order to quickly create pure thoughts: from reverence for the kindest mentor to the unity of Bliss and Emptiness. Send your blessings of inspiration to nullify all external and internal obstacles.

Acceptance of grace and cleansing

Streams of light and nectar descend from the hearts of all holy beings: they grant grace and purification.

Prayer for the stages of the path

The beginning of the path is trust in my kindest mentor, in whom is the source of all good. Bless me to realize this and follow it with great devotion. Life in the human world with all its freedoms is a rare phenomenon with deep meaning. Bless me to realize this, so that day and night I can realize the meaning of life. Like a bubble on water, my body dies and decays very quickly, and after death, the fruits of karma appear like a shadow that accompanies the body. Give me the blessing to know and not to forget about it, so that I will always be vigilant about what I do, and, avoiding destructive actions, I will acquire the wealth of virtue. The joys of samsara are deceptive: they do not bring satisfaction, but only torment. Therefore, incline me with your blessing to sincerely strive for the attainment of the bliss of perfect freedom. Give me the blessing that this pure thought engenders unremitting attention and the greatest care, so that the root of all Dharma - the vow of personal liberation - remains my main spiritual work. Like me, all my kind-hearted mothers are drowning in the ocean of samsara. Grant the blessing for the spiritual work of nurturing bodhicitta, so that sooner I can save them. But, limiting myself to this, in the absence of three moral foundations, I cannot become a Buddha, therefore I seek the blessing of gaining the strength to work on fulfilling the bodhisattva vows. After taking my mind away from entertainment and explaining in detail the true meaning of the concepts, bless me to achieve the unity of Serenity and Penetration. (Now start your mind-nurturing meditation)

In addition, there is a popular in East and Southeast Asia "Maha Karuna Dharani Sutra", it is also called "Mantra of Great Compassion" and is dedicated to the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara

Mantra of Green Tara (Nogan Dyark)

OM TARE TUTARE TOUR SOHA

Dedication of merit

By the power of the merits that I have acquired through labors on the stages of the Path, may all living beings acquire the opportunity to work in the same way. No matter how many living beings are experiencing heart and body torments, may they all get rid of suffering by the power of my merits, and may they all find eternal joy and happiness. May every being experience the happiness of people and gods and achieve early liberation, so that samsara will soon fade away. For the good of all living beings who fill space, may I gain wisdom, like Manjushri, great compassion, like Avalokiteshvara, great strength, like Vajrapani. The Dharma taught by the Buddha is the best healing remedy that relieves all mental pain. May this Dharma-jewel flourish in all the worlds that fill space. May great faith in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha be born in the consciousness of all living beings; and thus may they receive the grace of the Three Jewels. From now on, may there be no suffering in this world from incurable diseases, hunger and wars, and may earthquakes, fires, floods, storms and other disasters not cause harm.

May all living beings, my mothers, meet with precious guides who indicate the stages of the path to Enlightenment, and, having embarked on this path, may they soon reach the final peace of complete Enlightenment. May my prayers be fulfilled by the blessings of the buddhas and bodhisattvas, the truth of actions and their consequences, and the power of my pure supreme aspiration.

Mantras of Tibetan monks

Tibetan medicine is used by many countries and peoples of the world. Over time, it became traditional for all of us. And only a few know about the miraculous power of the so-called magic spells - mantras. They are the foundation of all medicine in Tibet.

Tibetan mantras are studied by scientists from around the world. Many of the researchers believe that the most ancient magic spells appeared neither more nor less than eight thousand years ago. It is possible that medicine in Tibet dates back to the Stone Age.

How medicine originated and developed in Tibet

Medicine, which arose in those days in Tibet, developed quite independently. Doctors and healers put all their knowledge and skills into it. Therefore, it is generally accepted that Tibetan mantras are a unique and inimitable phenomenon.

The most important aspect in the development of medicine in Tibet was the close study of the properties of plants, herbs, trees, fruits, animals and minerals. Healers used natural ingredients to heal various diseases. They learned to identify and then apply the properties of plants. With their help, doctors have learned to achieve harmony with themselves.

Thanks to close observation of animals, healers have learned how to properly use medicinal plants. It was with the help of animals that the people of Tibet appreciated the beneficial properties of mineral springs.

By meditating, the monks learned about the world around them. The beneficial properties of some minerals, plants, metals were learned thanks to the opened intuition.

Tibetan medicine, like the Tibetan mantras, is based on the basic elements of life. There are only five of them - water, earth, air, space and fire. Slime, bile and wind are the lifeblood of all Tibetan medicine.

According to Tibetan healers, human health is a state of balance of mucus, bile and wind. If there is no balance, then the person gets sick and loses balance in life. This is the basis for all Tibetan treatment. Having restored the "beginnings", having established nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, a person achieves complete healing from illness and longevity.

How to listen to Tibetan mantras

Beginners are encouraged to listen to prayer. This is how you can memorize the correct sound of the Tibetan mantra, its vibrations and echoes. Nowadays, there are various ways of studying prayer. You can not only listen to them, you can watch them completely free of charge online on various Internet portals.

Mindfulness is a very important point. Tibetan mantras must be listened to very carefully. This allows you to correctly perceive prayer and receive all the healing properties from it.

  • Tibetan mantras must be listened to or watched online for at least thirty minutes a day. In order to achieve complete healing with prayer, one must achieve complete union. Concentrate, calm down, relax, and only then start practicing. Half an hour a day is not a panacea. The number of repetitions should be a multiple of three.
  • You don't have to keep track of time. If you don't have a lot of it, you can shorten your class time. But this can lead to a decrease in efficiency. Therefore, it is recommended to practice Tibetan mantras at any free moment.
  • Correct breathing is a very important point when reciting mantras. It should be natural and relaxed. Only in this case the body is able to tune in the right way.
  • Monks believe that in order to prepare for healing from diseases, it is necessary to listen to the mantra at least one hundred thousand times. This condition is necessary. It allows the practitioner to acquire the necessary witchcraft skills.
  • For everyday practice, you need to choose one of the basic Tibetan mantras. It can be a mantra addressed to Buddha, a prayer to Vajrasattva, "five dakinis" or a prayer to the father of all Tibetan medicine.
  • Men are advised to opt for the five dakinis mantra. Women and girls can use any of the three remaining Tibetan prayers.
  • In the event that you do not know the number of repetitions of the Tibetan mantra, repeat it one hundred and eight times in a row. This number is sacred to Tibetan and Buddhist monks.
  • You can listen to them, you can watch videos online on Internet sites, they hum and read to yourself. Yet the most effective way to perceive magic spells is by watching a video. Most often, melodic music is applied to the video. Thanks to this, an excellent healing tandem is created.
  • Tibetan mantras must be applied with true faith in their healing effects. Otherwise, it is very difficult to achieve a miraculous effect from it.

Basic rules in mantra treatment

Monks and healers of Tibet believed that the treatment of any disease should be carried out in four stages:

  1. Diet and fasting.
  2. Leading a healthy lifestyle, changing your behavior.
  3. The use of medicinal herbs, decoctions and solutions.
  4. Treatment of the disease from the outside.

It is believed that observing all four rules and sacred Tibetan mantras is the ideal way to heal.

The most important Tibetan mantras

The strongest mantra of Tibetan monks is prayer to Buddha. She is addressed to the "king of medicine." A practicing person in prayer asks the Buddha to give him the strength to heal.

The next, no less powerful mantra is Vajrasattva. With its help, you can achieve healing cleansing, healing from disease. It is read to people in a coma. It is useful for sick animals.

The third, and no less powerful mantra is the prayer of the five dakinis. The combination of letters and sounds in this Tibetan mantra has a healing effect. She carries the feminine principle.

The sixth mantra is recited in case of problems associated with "bile". Such diseases include disorders of the digestive tract, liver, kidneys, and gallbladder.

The seventh Tibetan mantra is used by monks for mucus diseases. Such diseases are associated with various disorders associated with the joints, digestive and urinary systems. It is useful for people suffering from arthritis and arthrosis. It is recommended to listen to it as often as possible and not interrupt the practice. It is very useful for critically ill patients to watch videos online with light melodic music.

The tenth Tibetan mantra helps women in labor very well. It must be read exactly one hundred and eight times in a row. Then blow on the butter cube and divide it into three equal portions. The first part must be put on the top of the expectant mother, the second - on the lumbar region, and the third part must be given to the woman in labor to be eaten on it. It is advisable that the oil does not touch the teeth of the woman in labor. This Tibetan mantra will help the mother-to-be to give birth to a baby without pain and will ensure the baby's longevity.

The Tibetan number money mantra is strong enough. It must be read seventy-seven times in a row for seventy-seven days. The numbers are pronounced as follows: 7753191. When you read it, special sound waves are created that have a beneficial effect on your material well-being.

There are many Tibetan prayers. They are aimed at curing various ailments. These include the healing of bone fractures, getting rid of insomnia, bleeding, various types of pain, with fever and high temperature. Magic spells relieve flu and colds, brain diseases, inflammatory processes and eye diseases. And this is not a complete list of ailments that must be regularly applied in various spheres of human life.

Remember, Tibetan mantras must be believed with all your soul. It is necessary to merge with it into a single whole and then you will definitely achieve excellent results.

Buddhist monks, their community and rules

Buddhism is one of the oldest religions in the world. Its founder is considered to be Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who lived in Ancient India in the VI century. BC e. At the age of 29, he gave up his wealth and voluntarily left the palace. After becoming a hermit, Gautama devoted himself to meditating on the meaning of life, as a result of which he became an enlightened (Buddha). Until a ripe old age, he preached his teaching, the meaning of which was reduced to self-restraint and meditation for the sake of achieving the highest degree of bliss (nirvana).

Prevalence of Buddhism

Gradually Buddhism became popular in a number of Asian countries. Today it is practiced in India, China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Korea, Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Japan, Mongolia, Laos, as well as in some regions of Russia (Kalmykia, Tuva, Buryatia). According to researchers, in the modern world there are approximately 800 million followers of Buddhism. Of these, about 1 million people are monks who renounced the benefits of civilization and devoted themselves to following the commandments of Gautama. To a common man in the street, they may seem special people, whose life is shrouded in secrets. But is it really so? Let's find out who Buddhist monks are and how they live.

Power features

Monks professing Buddhism live in monasteries. Each of their days goes by a rigid schedule, deviating from which is considered a great sin. Buddhist monks wake up at 6 am and start their day with prayer. After it is over, they start breakfast, which consists of food brought to the temple by the locals. Hermits do not get food for themselves and do not cook, according to the prescriptions of religion, they must eat only what they get from believers in the form of alms. In some countries, after prayer, monks go through the streets of the city to beg for alms. The food the townspeople give them will become their breakfast. According to tradition, they should eat everything on their plate, even if the food has already gone bad.

The rules of Buddhist monks allow them to eat twice a day: early in the morning and at noon. After lunch, they are only allowed to drink water and herbal infusions. The inhabitants of the monastery eat extremely modest products, food for them is not a pleasure, but a source of vitality. The diet of Buddhist monks consists mainly of plant foods, however, there are also limitations. Hermits very rarely eat garlic and onions, since it is believed that these spices increase sexual desire, and this is unacceptable for them. Monks are not vegetarians, but they can eat meat only if they are sure that the animal was not killed for food. But alcohol, tobacco and drugs are strictly prohibited.

A ban on eating in the afternoon is there for a reason. At this time, Buddhist monks are engaged in self-improvement, meditation and reading religious literature (tripitaki), and a stomach filled with food will prevent them from concentrating their thoughts in the right direction. Also, after lunch, they receive believers who come to the temple to provide material assistance, to pray, or to receive a blessing.

Things Needed to Achieve Nirvana

The community of Buddhist monks is very austere. She must clearly follow the tenets of religion, which says that a person needs only 3 things for a normal life: food, clothing and a roof over his head. Everything else is considered superfluous and hinders the attainment of nirvana. Unfortunately, modern residents of monasteries do not respect Buddhist rules as much as their predecessors, and often acquire mobile phones, computers, and even personal cars. There are fewer truly righteous monks who strictly follow all the rules of religion.

Appearance

Buddhist monks look very unusual. The photos in which they are depicted allow you to see their appearance. Monks always appear bald before the people. They shave their heads, believing that the time spent on washing, cutting and combing their hair is best devoted to inner self-improvement and the search for the path to nirvana.

The traditional clothing of Buddhist monks consists of an upper cape covering the torso and left shoulder, and an inner sarong that is wrapped around the hips and hides the legs. In countries with cold climates, monks are allowed to wear warm stoles over their religious attire. They usually paint their outfits in bright colors such as curry, saffron and cumin. Sometimes you can find hermits in gray and black clothes.

Who can take a vow?

Before becoming a Buddhist monk, one needs to spend several years in the status of a novice. Not only men can take a vow, but also women who decide to devote themselves to religion. Any child who has reached the age of seven is allowed to become a novice of the monastery. But only an adult who has turned 20 years old from the moment of conception or 19 years and 3 months after his birthday can take a monastic vow.

Basic rules of monks

Anyone who enters the community is obliged to give up all earthly pleasures, to leave the family and all the wealth belonging to him. The main rules for him from now on are: do not kill, do not steal, do not drink alcohol, do not lie, do not commit adultery, do not sing and do not dance, do not rest on a soft bed, do not be greedy, do not eat at the wrong hour, do not use things that have a strong scent.

Throughout their lives, Buddhist monks have the right to return home 3 times in order to solve important matters or provide assistance to their families. Each time thereafter, at the appointed time, they are obliged to take their place in the monastery. If a person takes a vow, and then changes his mind and abandons it, he will be condemned by society.

Self-immolation of a Buddhist monk

Throughout its history, Buddhism has been repeatedly oppressed. One of his most ardent defenders was Thich Quang Duc, a Vietnamese monk who committed an act of self-immolation in protest against the persecution of religion by President Ngo Dinh Diem. On June 10, 1963, a huge crowd of monks appeared in the center of Saigon (the old name of Ho Chi Minh City), carrying banners calling for an end to the oppression of Buddhists. At the head of the procession was a blue car driven by Thich Quang Duc. Not far from the presidential palace, on a crowded street, a car stopped. Together with Thich Quang Duc, 2 monks came out of it. One of them laid a soft pillow on the asphalt, and the second took a can of gasoline out of the car.

Thich sat down on a place prepared for him on the ground in the lotus position, after which one of the protesters doused him with fuel. While reciting a prayer, the monk lit a match and set himself on fire. He flashed like a torch, but until the last he remained sitting with a straight back in the lotus position. After 10 minutes, his body was completely destroyed by the fire. The journalists managed to capture on film the self-immolation of a Buddhist monk. Pictures of the flaming Thich Quang Duc have spread all over the world and loudly announced the existence of serious religious problems in the country.

In this article:

Mantras are special short Buddhist prayers aimed at achieving a certain effect. This concept has many meanings, each practitioner brings its own meaning into it, and therefore it is impossible to choose any one definition and say that it is the only true one.

How to perceive the mantra

Some people draw parallels between mantras and witchcraft spells and conspiracies, in fact, although they have certain similarities, they are not the same. If we consider Buddhist definitions, then a mantra is a specific sound symbol, denoting an aspect of an enlightened mind and spiritual experience.

Any practitioner must remember that mantric sounds are not only something material and external, what the human ear hears is only a part of the mantra, the main thing in it is the generated energy vibrations that lead to the desired effect. The power of sound can be measured, but the power and efficacy of prayer cannot be brought to a precise meaning.

Pronouncing sacred words, a person passes their energy through his material and spiritual body, enters into resonance with this energy. That is why Buddhist mantras must be uttered by oneself, and not just listened to. The famous and revered Lama Govinda said that a mantra can give any person tremendous spiritual benefits, help in life, but only if a person can enter into resonance with the spoken words, and therefore it is not enough to write down and listen to the mantras, every word must be pronounced and feel.

Mantra can be called an internal sound and internal vibration of energy, even an internal feeling, therefore the physical sound of prayer does not have an important meaning and is strong enough to somehow affect a living being.

At the same time, all of the above does not mean that mantras do not need to be read aloud, you just have to remember that pronouncing a harsh word is just a means for a simpler experience of its subtle, mental meaning.

Mantras in Buddhism

Working with mantras is one of the most important components of Buddhism and Tantra. There are many different mantras that can be classified into different categories, but each prayer has a number of basic universal attributes.

First of all, each mantra is a series of syllables that can form whole Sanskrit words, available for translation, but not translated. The words of the mantras are left and read only in the original language, because in order to achieve a positive result, a person does not have to understand the meaning of individual words, these meanings need to be felt.

It is also worth noting that the words of the prayers defy conceptual and logical analysis, for the most part, they are meaningless, and each person understands prayer in his own way.

As an example of non-translatable and meaningless mantras, we can consider this prayer, which almost entirely consists of sounds and syllables that make up the name of Tara, namely Tara.
Mantra text: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Sokha.

Perhaps the most famous mantra in Buddhism is the prayer "Om Mani Padme Hum."

Mani and Padme are Sanskrit words that can be translated as "Jewel" and "Lotus" respectively, therefore this phrase means "Jewel in the lotus." The initial syllable "Om" and the final syllable "Hum" cannot be translated.

Many mantras can contain the full or partial name of the Buddha or Bodhisattva to whom they are dedicated.

Some researchers and practitioners say that Buddhist mantras are not just dedicated to Buddha or Bodhisattva, they are their sound equivalents, symbols, sound designations. Simply put, a mantra is an image, a manifestation of a deity, some even believe that this is his real name.

If you are familiar with European concepts of witchcraft and esotericism, then you know that European magicians from time immemorial believe that any entity, whoever it is, can be summoned, but this necessarily requires its name.

Comparing these views on invoking helper spirits and Buddhist mantras, one can also assume that the recitation of these prayers is an appeal, a call to Buddhist deities, a direct request for help and protection.

Mantras for healing diseases

Om Bhaikandze Bhaikandze Maha Bhaikandze Ratna Samu Gate Svaha is a powerful prayer that allows you to mobilize all the strength and energy of the body. It boosts immunity and promotes rapid recovery from any disease. To strengthen this mantra, the reading should be done after the cleansing meditation.

Om Mani Padme Hum is a famous prayer that is usually associated with a feeling of compassion for all living things, it is dedicated to the compassionate Buddha. These words have a powerful energy that can help in all aspects of a person's life.

It is believed that if this mantra is chanted more than a million times, then a person receives a gift of clairvoyance, but this is a very long process, which may take more than a year to complete. To quickly feel the effect of this prayer, you need to sing it 108 times within the walls of your home.

Om Ah Hum So Ha is a cleansing mantra that can act almost instantly. It can be used to cleanse the energy of your physical and spiritual body, to cleanse the house and all the objects in it. The prayer must be chanted 108 times, in time with your own breath. These words are also used when making offerings to the Buddha at a home shrine or altar, and Buddhists also recite them before eating.

Jaya Jaya Sri Nrsimha is a conspiracy against fear that can give a person peace and peace of mind.

Gayatri Mantra

Om, Tat savitur varenyam, Bhargo devasya dimahi, Dhyo yo nah prchodayaat. This is a sacred passage from the Rig Veda, to be precise - the tenth verse of the 62nd hymn, the third Mandala of the Rig Veda. In the Indian tradition, this text is usually attributed to Vishwamitra, one of the seven oldest divine sages.

This is one of the few prayers that can be almost completely translated with meaning. In the classical translation into Russian, these words mean: We want to meet the desired, Shine of God Savitar, Which should encourage our thoughts.

There are other translations of this prayer, the most detailed and complete of them says: “O our God! You give Life, You destroy sorrow and pain, You give happiness. You are our Creator, you are the Creator of all that exists, may we receive Your highest light, which destroys all sins, which disperses the darkness. Lead us, Creator, along the right path, along the righteous path. "

Mul Mantra

Eg On Kar Sat Nam Karta Purk Nirbho Nirver Akal Mure Ajuni Seibhong Gur Prasad Jap Ad Sach Jugad Sach Hebhi Sach Nanak Jose Bhi Sach is a powerful mantra that affects the entire human body, his physical body, spiritual and psychological state.

This prayer is a sound vibration aimed at freeing the mind of the individual from all negative and destructive programs. Many words included in this matra have a translation, but it makes no sense to make this translation, since such knowledge can only lead you astray.

The mantra works in three stages. First of all, prayer affects the physical body, every organ in the body, living cells, each of which has its own “soul”. At the second stage, prayer affects the subtle plane - on the soul and consciousness of a person, it clears our mind of all unnecessary and unnecessary, brings peace of mind and pacifies all bad thoughts. At the third stage, a person is completely united with himself, the individual tries on all the troubles, forgets his own mistakes that did not allow him to develop, and takes the first step towards his truly bright future.
